Lenuta Ciulei
Acclaimed in 22 countries on 4 continents, the Romanian-born violinist Lenuta
Ciulei started her brilliant career at the age of 9, appearing live on Romanian
National TV. Her distinctive and imaginative style comes from a unique combination
of violinistic traditions: the renowned artists and pedagogues George Enescu,
David Oistrach, and Eugene Ysaye. She began playing violin at the age of 5
and studied with Stefan Gheorghiu, Andre Gertler, Raphael Druian, and Ruggiero
Ricci.
Mrs. Ciulei is a first prize winner of the famous
N. Paganini (Genoa, Italy) International Violin Competition,
the T. Varga (Sion, Switzerland) and M. Abbado (Sondrio,
Italy) International Violin Competition. She has played
at many prestigious festivals: the Bayreuth Festival
(Germany), the Marlboro Music Festival, the Carmel
Bach Festival, the George Enescu International Festival
(Bucharest), the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival (Conn.),
and the Grand Teton Music Festival.
For her exceptional career she was awarded the 1994
Pennsylvania Council Of The Arts Fellowship Solo Recitalist
Award and in 1996 with The Cultural Order "Rio Grande" by
the President of The Federal Republic of Brazil.
She performed in front of the U.N. Great Assembly
at U.N. Palais in Geneva, in the Bartok Memorial House
in Budapest, in the Great Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory
in Moscow, in Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, in
Madrid for the Royal Spanish Family where the El Pais
newspaper named her "one of the greatest European violinists
of the younger generation", and in other major cities
and capitals in Europe, Asia, North and South America
as soloist with major orchestras.
Praised by public and critics alike for the balance
between her technique, accuracy, emotion and imagination,
she was named "an angel singing", "passionately abandoning
herself to music." Lenuta Ciulei has an unusual versatile
repertoire which features masterworks from early Baroque
to the latest contemporary music. She is a masterful
recitalist and chamber music performer.
