Master of Music in Music Education

The M.M. in Music Education is a special track of the M.M. program which is designed to address the needs of practicing teachers. A total of 36 credits is required. Students take courses in music education, theory, history, and performance as well as having 6 credits of electives which may be fulfilled by additional music and/or music education courses as well as courses in the Graduate School of Education. Before graduation, all candidates must prepare a portfolio of research papers and pass a written comprehensive examination covering pertinent aspects of music history, theory, and education. No audition is required.

It is strongly recommended that applicants have at least 1 year of successful K-12 teaching experience (or equivalent).
