Collegium Musicum to Perform
Ensemble to present entire Victoria Requiem

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – Collegium Musicum, the vocal ensemble dedicated to the performance of Renaissance music, will perform on Monday, November 15 at 8:00 p.m. in Kirkpatrick Chapel in downtown New Brunswick. The program, entitled The Genius of the High Renaissance: Music of Palestrina, Allegri, and Victoria, will feature a performance of Victoria’s Requiem in its entirety.

“This piece is never performed like this,” said Gloria Kierniesky, one of the members of the ensemble and a soloist. “Not even the Tallis Scholars attempt this 45-minute piece as a whole.”

Other pieces scheduled to be performed are Palestrina’s Surge, illuminare, Alma Redemptoris Mater, and Magnificat primi toni and Allegri’s Miserere mei dues.

Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for students. For further information or tickets, call 732/932-7511. Visit www.masongross.rutgers.edu.

About Collegium Musicum
Collegium Musicum is a small ensemble dedicated to the performance of Renaissance music. The ethos of Collegium is to bring together a small group of enthusiasts working in an informal atmosphere to explore unjustly neglected repertory from the 'Golden Age' of polyphony. It works intensively on a small group of pieces each semester, presenting them in a concert at the end of the semester.
The group is comprised of 16 singers (four to a part). Membership includes students, faculty from other departments, and members of the local community. Although the group is entirely vocal at present, instrumental participation is also possible given the availability of appropriate performers.
The group is directed by founder Andrew Kirkman, professor of music at Mason Gross School of the Arts. It was founded in 2000, and the Mason Gross Dean’s Office currently funds the series.

About the Department of Music
The Department of Music at the Mason Gross School has a faculty of 36 full-time and 36 part-time members. There are approximately 460 students enrolled in its seven degree programs: Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Music, Master of Arts, Artist Diploma, Doctor of Philosophy, and Doctor of Musical Arts. All of the music degree programs have as their common aim the development of well-educated professional musicians who have a deep historical and theoretical understanding of all aspects of music. The diversity of faculty specializations within the school provides a breadth of expertise rarely encountered in other programs.
