| Theater Arts Training in London at The Globe Rutgers' Conservatory
Rutgers University B.F.A. program is committed to providing intensive, sequential conservatory training that will help young focused theater students grow into dedicated and versatile professional theater artists. Rutgers' Conservatory at Shakespeare's Globe in London gives serious young artists intensive conservatory training, in the heart of London, under the instruction of the most accomplished theater artists in the U.K. Through access to the Globe's space, master, teachers, scholars, and practitioners, this program fulfills the twofold mission of both Shakespeare's Globe and Rutgers University of combining the best of conservatory training and first-rate undergraduate education.
Shakespeare's Globe is an organization founded by the pioneering American actor/director Sam Wanamaker as a unique international resource dedicated to the exploration of Shakespeare's work and the playhouse for which he wrote, through the connected means of education and performance. The facility includes a faithful open-air reproduction of the Globe Theater used by William Shakespeare for his own company in the 16th Century. The Rutgers Theatre Conservatory at Shakespeare's Globe in London is a program carefully designed to enhance and broaden the skills of each student. The experience and knowledge gained there will provide a solid foundation for their future growth as theater artists. All areas of study at Shakespeare's Globe include the following: Shakespeare's Plays in Context and British Art and Culture include a detailed study and analysis of Shakespearean text and an introduction to the background and historical context of Shakespearean London. Intensive study of classical Shakespearean plays over each semester combines the study of Shakespeare as literature as well as text in production. The plays to be covered each year are chosen by the Rutgers and Globe faculties with regards to the composition of the Globe season and the student company. British Art and Culture introduces British history, art, architecture, and culture as the foundation of the intensive study of Shakespeare's plays in their historical, social, and religious context. Students are required to see classical and contemporary plays on the London stage and visit cultural and artistic landmarks. Performance venues have included: Shakespeare's Globe, Stratford on Avon, The Young Vic, The National Theater, The Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal Court Theater, Donmar Warehouse, West End productions, and Fringe productions.
