The Rutgers University Summer Acting Conservatory is a four-week program designed to allow high school students the opportunity to experience intensive, professional actor training taught by accomplished professionals within the context of a college environment.



The rigorous aspects of actor training include daily classes in acting, movement, and voice/speech. All classes are taught by working theater professionals. In addition, students participate in Master classes, special seminars, and activities. Special emphasis is placed on developing fundamental acting skills to further the students' development as an accomplished performer.

Students also take classes in Theater History, Theater Appreciation, and Stage Craft.

RSAC's newest program of study where only 12 talented students will study our celebrated acting technique with equal focus on singing and dancing. Experienced Broadway professionals will offer unique classes and rigorous training to challenge students.

2008 Summer Program Highlights

June 29th to July 27

Application deadline: May 15, 2008.
All materials must be postmarked no later than May 15, 2008. Please note that students are encouraged to submit applications early as selection process is highly competitive.

 

This coming summer, RSAC promises to be better than ever!! Providing unparallel conservatory acting training to youngsters who are serious about acting. Who want to eat, sleep and breath training!!

 

  • Special Seminars - visit from cast members from Broadway, TV and film
  • Intensive Workshops - specialized guest artists will conduct workshops over a series of evenings. Each workshop will present an informal presentation which will be professionally videotaped. Workshop examples: Mask Making, Mime, and Stage Combat.
  • Broadway Shows - students see major NYC productions. Formal discussion and analysis on all shows.
  • Videotape - students receive DVD copy of the final SHOWCASE production which is professionally recorded and edited.
  • Cultural field trips - students visit famous cultural institutions including Radio City Music Hall, Lincoln Center and several museums. All field trips are structured events and will be chaperoned by the staff of the conservatory.
  • Collegiate life - catch a preview of living on the campus of a major state university
  • Collegiate Credit - 3 credits optional (additional cost)

The Rutgers Summer Acting Conservatory invites talented high school students to apply to this highly competitive program. We are dedicated to providing students with a safe, challenging, high-quality learning environment where each student will grow and develop as a young theater artist.


Students will reside in college dormitories within walking distance of their classes. Meals are provided by the college cafeterias, which are also within walking distance of the dormitories and classrooms. College counselors will reside in the dormitories to oversee, support and ensure the safety of students.


No more than 36 high school students from across the country are accepted.

Located in New Brunswick, NJ, the Summer Acting Conservatory is an extension of Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts Professional Actor Training Program, recognized as one of the top ten in the nation.
